The Lost Ones

One of my favorite pastimes is people watching;
I examine their outfit, their walk, their hair.
I even go so far as to make up stories about their occupation, accomplishments,
intellect, social status, etc.
- all based upon what I see.
An image is worth a thousand words,
so how many words are compiled and narratives generated about the people
and images we scroll past everyday?
What are we saying about them?
And more importantly, how do these images influence what we're saying about ourselves?
Look. Examine. Notate. Repeat.
That constant cycle of comparison has caused us to become visually impaired.
Our focus is off.
Dizzy.
Lost.
We become disoriented by the images we see,
not realizing it could be a flaunted facade that was curated for envy.
Yet, we fight so hard to become a duplicate of ones edited reality.
It's difficult to see in the midst of chaos,
so it's easy to lose our way.
Control is gone- relinquished to things that compromise our compass,
trample the truth, and silence our spirit.
Lost.
My heart hurts for those who can't recognize their change of environment.
And I have one question for those who choose to ignore the signs- aren‘t you tired?
Being adrift gets exhausting.
Come back.
The world is loud enough, and we live in a mental maze.
By lowering external sounds and silencing our thoughts,
we prevent that noise from disturbing our peace.
This not only gives way to calmness,
but it gives God an opportunity to
speak, console, and redirect.
He's the only one who knows where we are,
and can safely get us to where we're going.
The Lost Ones.

In all thy ways acknowledge him,

Love this post Jess. Most def something to talk about. We must stay grounded and remember who and whose we are at the end of the day. Comparison is the thief of joy and social media does a great job at burglarizing lol Lets live the life God has for us fr and not just through a screen.
HE is literally the “only one who knows where we are and can SAFELY get us to where we’re going” … wow. That’s so real. Comparing ourselves to people who we don’t even know foreal …will get us nowhere real fast. This is so deep and well-written bestfriend. You are golden!
