save some you, for you

*sigh*

why is it that we don't realize we're depleted until we're dried out?

like a worm shriveled on the pavement, looking for a cool place to hide out.

like a mirage in the dessert until the image has been wiped away;

we're replenished, refreshed until we speak and have nothing to say.

answers for them are "yes", but to ourselves it's always "no",

providing safe places for others, yet we have nowhere to go.

we build fortresses, havens, protecting them at all costs,

ensuring everyone is accounted for, but it's our souls that are lost.

pieces of ourselves are scattered, divvied up like rations,

we made self promises, but were never upholstered with actions.

before energy is given, time is spent, and the list is filled with "to-dos",

make sure there's space, always space to save some you, for you.

Thank you for this reminder hun. I guess we just get caught in auto-pilot and forget to be present and actually enjoy LIFE. I needed this!!! Beautiful think piece!

This is so true. We sometime tend to make time for others, but never make an appointment with ourself.

Absolutely! We have to change that approach. We can’t be good for others if we’re first not good to ourselves.
